Matai was found wandering on the side of the road
He had pus obscuring the left side of his face
He was mangy and emaciated
Coconut Mutts Co-Founder Jessica Sutherland supports Matai as he struggles to stand
At first, he tried to sleep in cardboard boxes instead of the beds that his rescuers supplied
Matai’s first bath included a lot of dirt and a baby pool
The wound over his eye never healed and continued to ooze blood and pus
Despite his injuries, Matai was incredibly friendly and sweet
He made quick friends with his foster brother, Tupu
He took to mainland life quickly
And found his forever home with Coconut Mutts Director/Founder Kelsey Johnson
Everything, including daily walks, were so new
He saw snow for the first time
His walks and hikes were promptly followed by well-deserved naps
He is loved
And doted on
And learning new tricks
In his new home
