After seeing pictures of animals in American Samoa, Lauren knew she wanted to help. The dogs and cats reminded her of all the animals she could not help during a fellowship in Peru. It broke her heart. She still has a picture of the puppy she couldn’t save in Peru.
Lauren currently works as a zookeeper in Washington State. She is very passionate about animal conservation, anti-poaching and general animal welfare. Lauren has a Bachelor of Science in Biology.
She does not remember a time when she did not have animals. Her first dog was a stray that was dumped and ended up being one of the best dogs she ever owned. Since then she’s tried to give every animal she’s seen a hug.
Original Coconut Mutt Tupu now lives with Lauren and her family. He loves to go on boats and loves the beach and still loves coconuts. Being part of Lauren’s family mean he hasn’t lost his island ways.
